This particular ending song montage from Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode 904, over the fake Injun music of the Joe Estevez classic Werewolf, never ceases to make me cackle. I’ve heard it a thousand times, and it never fails to be the highlight of whatever day I happen to watch it, and is probably one of the funniest things they’ve EVER done. That includes their various names for the David Rider character from Space Mutiny.

I’m grinning dumbly as we speak.

EDIT: Well, I forgot about the “He Tried To Kill Me With A Forklift” song from Fugitive Alien and Fugitive Alien II. Then again, pretty much all the songs from MST3K are awesome, from “Where oh Werewolf?” to “A Patrick Swayze Christmas” and “Jet Jaguar.”

no blood for lolcats

April 29, 2008

Cats get a bad rap these days. Now, there are a lot of dumb cats out there, but the future President Happycat is doing a lot to break down the old stereotypes of LOLcats as ignorant, with a little help from former MST3K writer and Rifftrax personality Bill Corbett. What’s Mabel doing to end discrimination against animals again? Nothing, considering she turned a blind eye to this horror.

We can all has dignity, kitteh.

Initial Launch: Please watch for icebergs

January 31, 2008

Come along with me, brothers and sisters, for the maiden voyage of the Cinematic Titanic. That would be the new project from Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson, “Dr. F” Trace Beaulieu, TV’s Frank Conniff, “Mrs. F” Mary Jo Pehl, and J. Elvis Weinstein. Huzzah!

In spite of my moderately critical review, I’m incredibly glad they’re all back, and I laughed a great deal while watching the new release. It’s got its weak points, and you can tell most of the gang hasn’t riffed in a long-ass time (unlike the Rifftrax/Film Crew gang), but the point is they’re back and they’re going to be around for a little while longer, or until Joel burns out again. Five people is a bit much, but it’s completely worth purchasing.

Now that I’ve said all that, you’ve got no reason to click on the review link. Not that you would have before. I know I’m catering to a niche audience of 30 people when I talk about MST3k, but it’s my niche, damn it! And they’re my people!

I can dig it, sucka

I now have a new nickname, given to me by the infamous Bill Corbett of MST3K and Rifftrax fame. You may call me “STICKS.” The quotation marks are mandatory.

In the movie version of this, I will be played by Joe Don Baker

You know how I know Newscoma and I will be BFFs? She likes Mystery Science Theater 3000 (so does Ginger, surprisingly). Amusingly enough, she posted about her desire for a Patrick Swayze Christmas at the very same time I was writing my Cultelevision article about those very same awesome folks for Den of Geek.

It was supposed to be like 500 words at best, but it ballooned to nearly three MS Word pages. What can I say? I like the show, and I want to make other people like it too, even if it means that I have to call Big McLargeHuge to come in and beat the crap out of them.
