Feel Good Friday – Hanging Out With You Tonight

October 3, 2008

Sometimes it feels like the only reason the world kicks you in the balls is so that, while you’re down on the ground cradling your fractured children, it can rear back and plant a boot right in your teeth. It’s been a rotten rat-fucking week for your boy. I’m not feeling well, I’ve gotten a ton of bad news lately, I’m cranky and irritable and generally pissed off all the time, but you know what?

One of my favorite bands ever, The Queers, is gonna be here tomorrow. So as Joe Queer and company would say, “Fuck this world, I’m hanging out with you tonight.”

I called in sick to work today and stayed in bed ’til noon
And now I just don’t care what’s going on outside this room
Things aren’t getting better
My future’s not too bright
Fuck the world I’m hanging out with you tonight

[insert whoas here]

Me and you will walk around so pointlessly
Smashing things, jacked up on way too much caffeine
I’m really going nowhere
I hate this shitty life
Fuck the world I’m hanging out with you tonight

[more whoas]

Fuck the world I’m hanging out with you tonight

[repeat until the end]

I’ve seen them once before already, which was awesome. They didn’t have Wimpy or Danny Vapid with them, unfortunately. They didt have former Teen Idol and Nashvillian Phillip Hill, though (I think; I won’t bet on it). I have no idea who is in their current lineup, but so long as Joe Queer is there it doesn’t really matter that much.

Feel Good Friday: TV Party

September 26, 2008

I love this song, and I wish Black Flag would reunite their 5-man lineup and come to my town. I know they’re all old and don’t get along now, but it’s not like I’d be giving them a choice. It’s my fantasy, after all, so I’ll make them do whatever I want.

The Venture Brothers: By Geeks, For Geeks

September 24, 2008

The best way I could describe The Venture Brothers for the newest Cultelevision article was that it was a show by geeks, for geeks. I mean, the show crams in more references to comic books, music, sci-fi, television, 80’s culture, and pop culture than I could possibly list in 10,000 words. Instead of even trying, I’ll just post a video detailing Hank Venture’s obsession with Batman.

This is why I love that show. It’s insane in the best way possible. I AM the Bat!

Feel Good Friday (err, Saturday)

September 20, 2008

Nothing says sleazy rock and roll like burlesque performers, Lemmy, and Dave Grohl grinning like an idiot. Can’t say I blame him, though. If I made millions of dollars and got to hang out with my rock and roll heroes, I’d be grinning too.

Black Dynamite

September 17, 2008

I was watching clips of Dolemite (don’t ask) tonight when I stumbled across a blaxploitation trailer I’d never seen before. I clicked on it and found myself watching the red band promo for Black Dynamite. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that not only is it a new movie (with Michael Jai White of all people), but it’s also not a spoof! I think we’ve got a real live blaxploitation move on our hands here, gang.

Needless to say, I’m excited.

Anti Melancholy Monday: Mitch Hedberg as a teenage ninja

September 15, 2008

Normally I loathe those horrible AMVs where they mash up scenes from Japanese cartoons to comedy routines and music and whatever else they make them with (I don’t like them, so I don’t explore too deeply into the world). However, I have to admit that the one below is probably the best-done one I’ve ever seen, and it was funny enough to share with the world. I’m sure it helps that I kind of like Naruto, but still.

Call it an anti-Melancholy Monday. I’m ready to laugh!

I Couldn’t Wait For Feel Good Friday

September 4, 2008

I can’t get this song out of my head, so in an effort to save myself, I’m going to spread it to others. Misery loves company, and I’m on a major rocka/psychobilly kick lately. My undying love of all things cheesy and horror-themed spills way over into my musical tastes, too.

The HorrorPops are touring the States come October, and that means I’ll be driving to either Chicago or Atlanta to see them. And I’ll probably buy this shirt, too.

Feel Good Friday: I DARE You.

August 29, 2008

Of all of Damon Albarn‘s insane projects, Gorillaz is my favorite because it’s so unstoppably funky in an experimental trip-hop sort of way. If you don’t shake your ass to this video, you are the whitest person in the history of honkeydom.

Death Race (2008) Review

August 24, 2008

I have a problem with any movie based heavily on cars. They always affect me a bit too much, and usually not for the best. Here’s an example:

After I saw Grindhouse, I sped all the way home. Not just like a little speeding, I mean a lot speeding. I had the highway to myself, so I just put the hammer down. Not all the way, but farther than I usually speed. After watching Paul W.S. Anderson’s remake of the 1975 cult classic Death Race 2000, I wanted to strap some .50 caliber machine guns onto the roof of my 1992 Buick four-door and drop a chunk of 6-inch-thick steel armor plating onto the jerk who tailgated me all the way home.

If you’re ready to go out and run down old ladies for extra points, read my Death Race review here. Actually, they took out the points system in this one, which is a shame. I loved the scene below.

Which only goes to show that even the fearsome Frankenstein has a 100% red-blooded American sense of humor!

Feel Good Friday: Psychobilly Freakout!

August 22, 2008

I love this song, I love this band. They didn’t play this last time I saw them play (that I can remember, but I was kind of feeling the cumulative effect of a multitude of beverages), but I hope they will play this song and Galaxy 500 the next time I see them.
